Slave revolt leader Nat Turner arrested

US slave revolt leader Nat Turner was arrested in Virginia on October 30, 1831. Turner, inspired by a religious vision, led a rebellion in August of that year which resulted in the deaths of 55 white people, including the family who enslaved Turner. White mobs later killed between 36 and 102 Black people in retaliation for the attacks. After his October capture, Turner became one of 55 people to be executed by Virginia in connection with the rebellion.
