Count Camillo di Cavour, the first Prime Minister of Italy, dies

On June 6, 1861, Count Camillo Benso di Cavour died He was the first Prime Minister of a united Italy and the political leader of his nation’s unification movement. After Italian unification, Cavour was responsible for the creation of the Italian constitutional monarchy and its founding political documents.

Arkansas governor Faubus attempted to stop integration of Little Rock high school

On September 4, 1957, Arkansas Governor Orville Faubus called out state National Guard troops to prevent federal court-ordered integration of black students into Central High School in Little Rock. President Eisenhower subsequently sent the US 101st Airborne Division to Little Rock to enforce the ruling.
