JURIST, the law student-powered international legal news organization, continues its 30th Anniversary celebration throughout 2026 with a special webinar series focused on the rule of law, human rights, and international justice.

The third webinar in the series will feature Ken Harper, Associate Professor in Visual Communications and Director of Graduate Studies for Multimedia, Photography and Design at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications. The program, focused on media and atrocity coverage, will take place on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 12:00 PM EST.

Harper is an Associate Professor at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School, where he directs the Multimedia, Photography, and Design Master’s program and founded the Newhouse Center for Global Engagement. Before teaching, he spent nearly two decades as an award-winning photojournalist and interactive producer at Rocky Mountain News, MSNBC.com, and his own agency, Ironclad Images.

Ken’s work focuses on preparing students for the realities of global journalism. His collaborative projects have ranged from symposia on the Syrian conflict to digital health monitoring tools developed during the 2014 Ebola outbreak for the Liberian government. Most recently, he created “Silenced,” a series honoring more than 2,500 journalists killed worldwide through a memorial wall and workshops that address the physical and emotional demands of reporting from high-stakes environments.

The JURIST 30th Anniversary webinar series will continue throughout 2026 with additional distinguished speakers addressing pressing global rule-of-law issues.
