Trump administration launches investigation into Biden’s ‘cognitive decline’ while in office

US President Donald Trump issued a presidential memorandum to his attorney general on Wednesday, directing an investigation into executive actions taken towards the end of former President Joe Biden’s term.

Specifically, the memorandum directed an investigation into whether certain individuals in the White House conspired to cover up Biden’s “cognitive decline” while he was in office and whether Biden’s use of an “autopen” is a valid exercise of a presidential signature on an executive policy decision.

The memorandum explained that the combination of the American public’s recent discovery of Biden’s aggressive form of prostate cancer and the discovery of Biden’s use of an autopen during the second half of his presidency raises concerns for the legitimacy of his actions. Specifically, the order stated:

Given clear indications that President Biden lacked the capacity to exercise his Presidential authority, if his advisors secretly used the mechanical signature pen to conceal this incapacity, while taking radical executive actions all in his name, that would constitute an unconstitutional wielding of the power of the Presidency, a circumstance that would have implications for the legality and validity of numerous executive actions undertaken in Biden’s name.

The memorandum pointed to the over 1,200 presidential documents signed during Biden’s presidency, his appointment of 235 judges to the federal bench, and his issuance of more pardons and commutations than any administration in US history. The Trump administration has raised concerns in the past as well about the validity of Biden’s pardoning of his family members, specifically his son Hunter Biden’s pardoning on gun and tax evasion charges, and about Biden’s “radical policy shifts” towards the end of his presidency..

This memorandum comes after a book titled “Original Sin,” published on May 20 and written by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson. The book accused Biden’s “inner circle” of covering up his deteriorating physical and mental condition during Biden’s 2024 presidential re-election campaign.
