Former US vice presidential chief of staff testifies to federal January 6 grand jury

Marc Short, former Chief of Staff to US Vice President Mike Pence, Monday confirmed that he testified before a grand jury in the investigation into the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. In an interview with ABC News, Short confirmed he was subpoenaed by the US Department of Justice. ABC News cameras captured footage of Short leaving the Washington DC District Court accompanied by his attorney on Friday.

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched several grand jury investigations into the events surrounding the Capitol riot but has not disclosed many details to the public. All that is known is that the investigation is a criminal inquiry. In a parallel investigation, Short previously appeared before the US House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the US Capitol.

In an interview with ABC News’ Linsey Davis, Short said he was subpoenaed and appeared before a federal grand jury. Short was unwilling to disclose any details about his testimony to the grand jury.

Based on testimony revealed by the select committee, Short was present at two key meetings on January 4 and 5 in the lead up to the Capitol riot. In those meetings, former President Donald Trump met with advisors to discuss possible legal strategies and efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Short was also with former Vice President Mike Pence on January 6 as the Capitol was stormed.

Short is the highest-ranking Trump administration official to appear before the grand jury.
