Armenia takes Azerbaijan to Europe rights court over Nagorno-Karabakh clashes

Armenia lodged a request with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) Monday seeking interim measures against Azerbaijan following military clashes over the weekend.

The request sets out three specific interim measures. Armenia is requesting that the ECHR direct Azerbaijan:

  1. to cease the military attacks towards the civilian settlements along the entire line of contact of the armed forces of Armenia and Artsakh;
  2. to stop indiscriminate attacks;
  3. to stop targeting civilian population, civilian objects and settlements.

These interim measures are requested under Rule 39 of the Rules of Court, which authorizes the imposition of such interim or emergency measures where there is an imminent risk of irreparable harm. The request by Armenia comes as a result of the fighting that broke out in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.
