New Hampshire governor signs police reform bill

New Hampshire governor, Chris Sununu, has signed a criminal justice reform bill. This bill comes in response to the George Floyd killing, which sparked nationwide protests.

House Bill 1645 will effectively prohibit the use of chokeholds, ban private prisons throughout the state, requires mandatory reporting of police misconduct, and provides the police department with the necessary funding to conduct psychological stability screening for perspective law enforcement candidates.

In response to signing this bill into law, Governor Sununu stated, “I would like to thank all those involved in making this bill a reality. This is a good first step, and I look forward to our continued work with the Commission on Law Enforcement Accountability, Community, and Transparency.”

The modifications made by House Bill 1645 will soon be implemented in all New Hampshire police departments.
