Missouri allows only abortion clinic to remain open

The Missouri Administrative Commission ruled on Friday for Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region, allowing the state’s only abortion provider to renew its license.

The Department of Health and Senior Services refused license renewal to Planned Parenthood due to, among other concerns, its substantial failure to conduct physician interviews, to file complication reports for unsuccessful attempts to perform a surgical abortion, to maintain accurate medical records according to professional standards, to provide statutory informed consent to patients, and to maintain and administer policies to ensure safe care.

Three of the physicians at Planned Parenthood, who previously provided abortion care, stopped providing the service due to the non-renewal of Planned Parenthood’s license. The commission found that though there were violations of two law provisions, Planned Parenthood has demonstrated that it meets the requirements for renewal of its abortion facility license.
