Trump suggests hold on WHO funding

During a Coronavirus Taskforce press briefing on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump announced that the US could withhold funding to the World Health Organization (WHO). Trump first criticized the organization for “disagree[ing] with [his] travel ban.” He then suggested that WHO “could have called [the COVID-19 pandemic] months earlier … and should have known [the severity of the pandemic].” Then the president suggested that the US could put a hold on funds it usually sends to the WHO.

After a question from the press, Trump clarified: “I’m not saying I’m going to [withhold WHO funding], but we’re going to look at it.”

The President also posted criticism of the WHO on twitter earlier in the day:

The W.H.O. really blew it. For some reason, funded largely by the United States, yet very China centric. We will be giving that a good look. Fortunately I rejected their advice on keeping our borders open to China early on. Why did they give us such a faulty recommendation?
