Federal judge blocks California law requiring background checks for ammunition sales

A federal judge granted an injunction Thursday blocking California law that required background checks for all ammunition purchases. The judge granted the injunction stating that the law placed an undue burden on the plaintiffs, violating their Second Amendment rights.

The Safety For All Act forces people to purchase ammunition exclusively from licensed dealers and face to face. If they want to purchase a firearm or ammunition they must pay for a background check every time they wish to make a purchase. The law also made it illegal to purchase firearms online from vendors outside of California unless the vendors ship to licensed California vendors and then the person purchases in person after a background check.

Overall, the judge found that California is treating the Second Amendment as a loophole they must close and is placing an undue burden on law-abiding citizens who want to purchase firearms and ammunition.
