Wisconsin legislature objects to challenge of voter purge

On Tuesday the Republican-controlled Wisconsin legislature asked the Federal District Court in Madison to throw out a challenge to the state’s voter purge. The purge is currently being evaluated in the state system.

The suit alleges that the manner in which Wisconsin is clearing its voter rolls is unconstitutional. The plaintiffs claim that letters sent by the state elections commission remove a person without proper warning of how to stay on the voter rolls and do not give a timeline to act.

The legislators argue that the suit is unnecessary since the arguments being brought by the League of Women Voters can be introduced in the ongoing state case and that they are jumping the gun with the lawsuit.

Wisconsin is a battleground state for the 2020 election, making the outcome of this lawsuit very important.
