House approves bipartisan Holocaust education bill

On the 75th Anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, the US House of Representatives voted Monday overwhelmingly in favor of the Never Again Education Act — funding created to support Holocaust education across the country.

The measure authorizes $10 million over the next five years to expand the US Holocaust Memorial Museum’s education programming, “requiring the Museum to develop and disseminate accurate, relevant, and accessible resources to improve awareness and understanding of the Holocaust and educate individuals on the lessons of the Holocaust as a means to promote the importance of preventing genocide, hate, and bigotry against any group of people.” Funding will also go to create a centralized website and database of tools and lesson plans for teachers.

The bill passed 393-5.
