UN SG ‘disappointed’ in this year’s round of climate negotiations

Negotiations at the COP25 UN.climate conference in Madrid ended Sunday, with little progress on climate crisis strategies. UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated his feelings on Twitter regarding the situation, expressing disappointment but optimism for conferences to come.

Guterres stated that he is “more determined than ever to work for 2020 to be the year in which all countries commit to do what science tells us is necessary to reach carbon neutrality in 2050 and a no more than 1.5 degree temperature rise.”

The conference did not lead to a formal resolution regarding the international community’s response to climate change. Greta Thunberg stated her opinion on Twitter, explaining that science was being ignored at the expense of the environment. The conference was an attempt to update the Paris Agreement for the modern era.
