House Judiciary Committee issues subpoena for former Trump aides

The US House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday issued two subpoenas for the testimony of former Donald Trump aides Hope Hicks and Annie Donaldson.

This comes hours after former White House Counsel Donald McGahn did not show up to testify at Trump’s request. McGahn is a key witness in the obstruction charges against Trump; he was allegedly pressured by Trump to fire Robert Mueller and later to lie about it.

Hicks, former White House communications director, and Donaldson, former chief of staff for McGahn, are being asked to testify before the Committee on June 19 and June 24, respectively. The Committee is also requesting documents from them relating to Michael Flynn, James Comey, the Mueller investigation and Michael Cohen, among other matters.

House Judiciary Chair Jerry Nadler stated Tuesday that Trump’s actions have carried a “pattern of obstruction and coverup well beyond the four corners of the Mueller Report,” and that “[the Committee] will hold this President accountable, one way or the other.”
