Malaysia former first lady facing new corruption charge

Rosmah Mansor, wife of former Malaysia prime minister Najib Razak, was charged on Wednesday with accepting a bribe in relation to a government solar power project.

Rosmah Mansor was charged with accepting a 5 million ringgit (USD $1.2 million) payment through her aide from a manager at Jepak Holdings as a kickback for helping secure a 1.25-billion ringgit (USD $304 million) contract from the Education Ministry. The contract relates to supply and install solar energy panels in 369 schools in eastern Sarawak state on Borneo without open tender.

Appearing in a Kuala Lumpur court, Rosmah Mansor denied the latest charge against her and complained that she was the victim of slander.

Following the election of her husband, police discovered valuables, including cash, jewellery and luxury handbags, worth up to USD $273 million in properties linked to the couple.
