Students sue elite universities for fraudulent admissions practices

Two American students filed a lawsuit Wednesday against a score of elite universities and who the suit refers to as “California con-man, William “Rick” Singer.” The plaintiffs allege fraudulent admissions practices on part of Singer, and negligent oversight on part of the universities. Both of the students were denied admissions to these universities.

The complaint states that wealthy parents paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to William Singer, the founder of a fraudulent college entrance consultant company, to take standardized college entrance exams for their children, and fabricate false high school athletics profiles for their children. The profiles were meant to give the impression that the unqualified students were successful high school athletes. Singer would give bribes to college officials and coaches in exchange for assistance in helping the unqualified students’ admissions.

The complaint alleges the universities were negligent in granting admissions to unqualified students by corruptive means. They ask that the defendant universities return their application fees and cover their attorney fees.

The defendant schools listed are Yale University, University of Texas, Wake Forest University, University of Southern California, University of San Diego, Stanford University, and Georgetown University.
