Ex-soldier charged with murder and attempted murder over Bloody Sunday deaths

On Thursday, the Public Prosecution Service for Northern Ireland announced that there was enough evidence available to prosecute a soldier involved in Bloody Sunday.

The soldier was identified as Soldier F and is being prosecuted for two murders and four attempted murders. For the other eighteen suspects, “it has been concluded that the available evidence is insufficient to provide a reasonable prospect of conviction.” A lot of the evidence discovered “is not admissible in criminal proceedings, due to strict rules of evidence that apply.”

The decisions to prosecute “announced today relate only to allegations of criminal conduct on Bloody Sunday. Consideration will now be given to allegations of perjury in respect of those suspects reported by police.”
