House Democrats introduce bill to expand background checks on gun sales

On Tuesday, House Democrats introduced a bill that would expand background checks on gun sales. The bill would require background checks on most gun purchases, “including those sold at gun shows and over the internet.” However, there would be some exceptions for guns for law enforcement officers as well as for “guns transferred between close family members.” The bill would also provide exceptions for transfers to executors of estates, as well as “temporary transfers of weapons for the purpose of hunting or to ‘prevent imminent death or great bodily harm.'”

The bill “will almost certainly pass the House” but may have a harder time passing in the Senate.
