Germany court dismisses Qualcomm patent lawsuit against Apple

The Mannheim District Court in Germany dismissed a patent lawsuit from Qualcomm against Apple on Tuesday.

Qualcomm filed the suit against Apple due to the use of Qualcomm chips in Apple’s smartphones.

The court determined that Qualcomm’s lawsuit against Apple was groundless. The lawsuit was determined based on the language of the patent which the court determined required a voltage to remain constant. Because the Apple smartphones did not have a constant voltage, the smartphones were ruled to not violate the patent. Qualcomm is still able to appeal the decision to the Higher Regional Court.

Qualcomm has five other patent cases pending against Apple in the same court system. Qualcomm has also filed patent cases against Apple in the US and China. Three patent cases were filed by Qualcomm in the US in November 2017. In September 2018 Qualcomm accused Apple of stealing corporate secrets and giving them to Intel.
