Arkansas and Missouri vote in favor of raising minimum wage

Arkansas and Missouri voted on Tuesday to approve measures raising the states’ minimum wages.

In Arkansas, the minimum wage will now gradually raise to $11 per hour by 2021. Arkansas currently has a minimum wage of $8.50 per hour.

In Missouri, the minimum wage will now annually increase from $7.85 per hour to $12 per hour by 2023. The final wage can then increase or decrease based on the Consumer Price Index.

According to The Fairness Project, an advocacy group that supported the initiatives, wages will increase for 300,000 Arkansas workers and 350,000 Missouri workers.

In May 2017 the Illinois House approved raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour. In March 2017 the Arizona Supreme Court upheld an Arizona law that raised the minimum wage to $10 per hour. During the 2016 elections, four states (Arizona, Colorado, Maine and Washington) approved minimum wage increases.
