EPA to roll back Obama-era regulations on emissions from coal-fired power plants

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Tuesday announced a regulation change [proposal, PDF] to replace the Obama administration’s Clean Power Plan with the Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) rule.

In the EPA’s press release [text], Acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler said:

The ACE Rule would restore the rule of law and empower states to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide modern, reliable, and affordable energy for all Americans. Today’s proposal provides the states and regulated community the certainty they need to continue environmental progress while fulfilling President Trump’s goal of energy dominance.

Next for the regulation change is a 60-day notice and comment period on the federal registry.
