Israel limits lawsuits by Palestinians

[JURIST] The Israeli Knesset [official website] voted 54-15 on Wednesday to limit liability for lawsuits brought against the government by Palestinians claiming compensation for damages caused by the Israel Defense Forces. The so-called "Intifada Law" allows only two instances [JURIST report] where a suit may be brought: if an IDF soldier was convicted of a traffic offense, or if a Palestinian suffers physical harm while being detained by the military. Another law passed on Wednesday, by a 59-12 vote, limits Israeli citizenship for Palestinians to those married to Israeli citizens, and requires men to be at least 35 and women to be at least 25 to be eligible.
