Iranian judiciary denies harassing Nobel winning human rights lawyer

[JURIST] The Iranian Judiciary [official website] Tuesday denied accusations by Nobel Prize winning lawyer Shirin Ebadi [Nobel biography; BBC News profile] that it had harassed her and placed restrictions on her representation of political prisoners. A judiciary spokesman said that no restrictions were placed on Ebadi, and that Iranian citizens had a right to legal advice from lawyers, including Ebadi. Ebadi said Monday that she has been subject to threats for the past 10 years and that prisoners often had trouble gaining access to representation. Ebadi won the Nobel Prize in 2003 for her work in representing political prisoners in Iran.
