Pinochet daughter detained at US airport

[JURIST] Lucia Hiriart, the eldest daughter of former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet [BBC profile; JURIST news archive] was detained [Reuters report] Wednesday at Dulles International Airport in Washington DC, according to a spokesperson from the Chilean government. Earlier this week, prosecutors in Chile brought tax evasion charges against her and other members of the Pinochet family [JURIST report]. Hiriart allegedly owes more than $850,000 in taxes to the Chilean government, and Chilean authorities issued a warrant for her arrest after she failed to appear [BBC report] to answer to the charges.
