US pilot found guilty of dereliction of duty in "friendly fire" death of Canadian soldiers Jeannie Shawl at 4:29 PM ET The US Air Force has found Major Harry Schmidt guilty of dereliction of duty for accidentally dropping a bomb on Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan. Schmidt, who will receive a written reprimand and forfeit $5,600 in pay, had originally chosen to face court-martial but later opted to defend his actions at a non-judicial hearing.
